A drive-by shooting at around 7p.m. in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, sent three people to the hospital with gunshot wounds – one of them a pregnant woman.
The gunman was reportedly driving a white Cadillac Escalade when he started shooting at a group of eight or nine people standing in front of the DeKalb Gourmet Deli. The pregnant woman seemed to be the most seriously hurt of the crowd, with a gunshot to her thigh. Police arrived from the 88th precinct, located just a block away from the scene.
There were two other victims who were also rushed to the hospital, including 15-year-old boy who was shot in the arm and torso, and a 20-year-old man who was shot in the leg. The three were rushed to Kings County Hospital where they are all currently in stable condition.
“It all happened in a second; it was just like one, two, and then everyone ran to the back,” the cashier told New York Times reporters. “I was just scared about the lady. She kept on opening and closing her eyes. I said, ‘Just keep your eyes open.’ ”
The 15-year-old boy was identified by his mother, Nora Parker, as Kevin Smith. Mrs. Parker said that her son had just left their apartment to get a snack when the shooting took place.
Michelle Drisland, a local who lives near the deli said that she was taking a walk when she heard gunshots being fired. When she got to the store, she saw men lying on the ground, one of them clutching his chest.
She said that there is always a large group of men gathered around outside that deli, every night.
“It’s really strange,” she told New York Times reporters, “because there’s nowhere else like that on DeKalb. But right when you get to that store, there’s always a group of guys.”
