On Veteran’s Day 2008, the former aircraft carrier U.S.S Intrepid was completely restored, and sailed into her now permanent home – Pier 86. Once an integral part of U.S Naval defense, the 40-capacity aircraft carrier is now home to a retired British Concorde jet, along with an A-12 Blackbird (the fastest spy-plane in the world) and the U.S.S Growler, a former missile submarine now open to the public. You’ll need an entire afternoon to truly explore this historic monster-ship, however there are plenty of interactive exhibits to delight the kids, including the cockpit of an A-6 and a submarine simulator to name just a few.
