Beset within the Museum of Arts and Design building at Columbus Avenue, Robert’s Restaurant is a stark space, brought to life with contemporary ambient lighting and a spectrum of fluorescent color. Quirky furnishings compliment the modernist zone, with glass chairs and tables bouncing light, and curvaceous sofas softening the edginess of post-minimalist cool. If you prefer your rooftop dining experience without a chilly breeze nipping at your neck, Robert’s is the place to come. The appetizer menu is as edgy as the space, with daring inclusions like tartare of fluke avec pickled apples, and spiced pear salad complimented with Blue D’Auvergne. Pasta and entrees offer further taste contrasts with braised veal cheeks and lemon verbana cream, or grilled Scottish salmon in an onion-thyme coulis. The columnized windows offer unrivaled views across the Columbus Circle and beyond, but with such great food, it might be a little difficult shifting your eyes from your plate.
