A sublime blend of Gothic decor and the elementals of an old-school Brooklyn brewing house are the key ingredients to Sputter Duyvil’s rather dark and brooding personality. All is not as it seems, for the welcome is as far removed, as the gargoyles are from France. It’s warm, exceptionally hospitable and the place itself has a quirkiness rare to find in the ‘Big Apple’. Cask ales are the order of the hour, with appropriately dubious names such as Greenflash Palate Wrecker. Tap ales run the gamut of origin (changing on a regular basis) from Czechoslovakia to rural Bavaria, with a few native brews like Brooklyn Weisse on standby for the locals. The garden is archaic in design with around 25 tables, creeping vines and faux crumbling walls adding to ye’ olde world allure.
