Nestled in the heart of Manhattan, within the Yorkville neighborhood, a twee themed alehouse lures locals with the promise of beer from a boot. Not a leather-bound hiking monstrosity we might add, but the “steifel” – a boot shaped glass popular in Germany, capable of holding up to 2 liters of smooth, Deutsch ale. Heidelberg’s garden is a-typical of the cozy, hemmed in back yards of Berlin brewery pubs, with a smattering of umbrella shaded tables and a convivial atmosphere. Head down in the fall for the Oktober Fest (October 12th) – a commemoration of King Ludwig I’s marriage to Therese of Bavaria. The festival is a real Bavarian knees-up with live music, laughter and a very late license!
