And to do so means having my finger on the pulse of the dog run scene. Yeah, we dog owners are that serious about this stuff. There is nothing worse than seeing your ...continue reading

It’s Sunday morning. You have peeled yourself out of bed and are ready to greet the day after a weekend of wild parties, turning heads, and a secret rendezvous or two. Or maybe you spent your weekend by lounging at home in your PJs and watching every episode of 30 Rock, while drinking nearly a case of grape soda. I don’t know your life and I don’t judge. Either way you are about to start another week after the last one was full of long hours (be it spent at work or looking for work), bad food, and even worse coffee. ...continue reading

When I first moved to Brooklyn Heights in 2005, I didn’t realize how much I would fall in love with this gem of a neighborhood. Brooklyn Heights is home to the Promenade (with the best views of Manhattan this side of private helicopter rentals), beautiful architecture, a variety of movie theaters, bookstores, great restaurants, and multiple subway lines (which always comes in handy when the MTA decides to close or detour pretty much every train you want to take in a single weekend). But one thing I was not expecting when I headed across the bridge from Manhattan was the treasure ...continue reading

Like every other store, Barneys has had to endure a ton of financial difficulties in the last year and lost a lot of money. They weren’t paying all of their pills on time, forcing their parent company, Istithmar, to pump $25 million into the chain, despite their own financial problems. However, last month, billionaire Ron Burkle proved his faith in the store by purchasing a huge chunk of their debt, despite the fact that he got it for 60 cents on the ...continue reading

Early Sunday morning, an undercover police officer who was responding to reports of a bar fight fatally shot a 43-year-old security guard who had opened fire inside the bar. A 19-year-old man with a gun also involved in the fight was wounded by police.

It was a raging fight that drew police attention at Norwood Palace Sports Bar in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, where patrons’ smashed bar stools over each other’s heads.

The 43-year-old man, later identified as Kevin White, had been hired as a security guard for a party at the bar, celebrating the boxing match between Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao, when ...continue reading

A drive-by shooting at around 7p.m. in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, sent three people to the hospital with gunshot wounds – one of them a pregnant woman.

The gunman was reportedly driving a white Cadillac Escalade when he started shooting at a group of eight or nine people standing in front of the DeKalb Gourmet Deli. The pregnant woman seemed to be the most seriously hurt of the crowd, with a gunshot to her thigh. Police arrived from the 88th precinct, located just a block away from the scene.

There were two other victims who were also rushed to the hospital, including ...continue reading

Many people were dismayed to see the national unemployment rate rise above 10 percent for the first time in three decades but that rate is even higher in Brooklyn where 125,000 people are out of work.

The Department of Labor announced earlier this month that the federal unemployment rate has hit 10.2%, the highest that it has been in more than 25 years. Later, the Labor Department also disclosed that the unemployment rate in Brooklyn had hit 11 percent.

This was not promising news for Brooklynites seeing as how every expert has predicted that the unemployment rate will rise even higher before the ...continue reading
