Harold Ford Now Supports Gay Marriage

Harold Ford Jr.

Much like Senator Kirsten Gillibrand did herself, potential senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. has begun to flip-flop on the views that he held while being a Senator from Tennessee, a more conservative state.

The first in what will unlikely be a string of position reversals was Ford changing up his position on gay marriage, something that he opposed while living in an anti-gay marriage state.

We all know that politicians will say anything to get elected and seeing Gillibrand and Ford attempt to move from the conservative side to mainstream Democrat has exemplified this …continue reading

King Won’t Challenge Gillibrand But Ford Might

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

After making a lot of hay about a possible Senate run while Governor David Paterson attempted to pick Hillary Clinton’s replacement a year ago, Long Island Congressman Peter King has decided not to run for the Senate seat. The move is more good news for rookie Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, after former Mayor Rudy Giuliani announced that he wouldn’t run for her seat either a while ago.

Still, while potential Republican challengers continued to drop off, some of her fellow Democrats have been considering seizing the opportunity and challenging that largely unknown Senator in the primaries.

Democrats Grow Worried As Election Year Kicks Off

Dem Leader Harry Reid is on the bubble

It was a great day for the Democratic Party on November 4, 2008. A black, young Senator named Barack Obama had won his longshot bid for the presidency, the House of Representatives extended their large Democratic majority, and Senate Democrats were on the verge of sealing a “Super Majority.”

A little over a year later, with midterm elections nearly a year away, Democrats are becoming growingly concerned about how many of their party members, and even more so, party leaders, will stick around for another term.

In the past week, the …continue reading

With Giuliani Out, No GOP Candidates Stand Out

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

As we mentioned earlier this week, the announcement by former New York City Mayor and Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani that he would not run was a devastating blow to the Republicans who are now expected to lose both the gubernatorial and Senate elections because they do not have any viable candidates.

Rudy Giuliani’s departure from the race before it even began shows a side of the GOP that is often unnoticed, the fact that the Party has just a handful of prominent candidates (none of which actually win major elections) and not much else.

In New York, the most prominent …continue reading

Rudy Not Running For Office, Endorses Lazio

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani

It appears that the political gods are in fact merciful and Rudy Giuliani will in fact not run for office in 2010. On Tuesday, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani announced that he will not run for governor or senator in 2010, putting an end to months of relentless rumors about his political future.

Giuliani had been riding the September 11 gravy train after his term as mayor of New York expired and was doing a good job of it as he continuously reminded us of the fact that he was mayor of …continue reading

Poll Numbers Look Good For Bill Thompson

Comptroller Bill Thompson

Losing to New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg seems to be the best thing that has ever happened to New York Comptroller Bill Thompson. The man who was once the only guy stupid enough to run against Bloomberg and his bottomless wallet has now become a very serious contender for the Senate and Lieutenant Governor thanks to how close he made the election.

Having become a household name after nearly upsetting Bloomberg’s third-term bid despite being outspent 12-1, Thompson is now eyeing a future after his term as Comptroller ends and poll numbers are showing that …continue reading

Giuliani Takes Olympics Job, Unlikely to Run For Office

Rudy Giuliani has taken a job as a security consultant for the 2016 Rio Olympics and many believe will now not run for any kind of political office any time soon.

Giuliani, under whom crime rates dropped in New York City while the city was the victim of terrorist attacks twice, will help Rio clean up their streets in time for the Olympics that have just been awarded to them. Rio has an incredibly high rate of violent and non-violent crime, a major worry for leaders as the biggest sporting event in the world makes its way to South America for the …continue reading

Thompson Is Said to Mull a Run Against Gillibrand

Comptroller Bill Thompson

City Comptroller William C. Thompson Jr. made a bid for mayor this year, and is now contemplating challenging Kirsten E. Gillibrand in next year’s primaries, according to the New York Times.

Thompson gained a lot of popularity during his run for mayor, and surprisingly even almost won against Michael Bloomberg. Thompson is now going over several options.

He could challenge the state comptroller, Thomas P. DiNapoli, in the primary election or he could return to the private sector and run for mayor again in 2013.

The primary is only 10 months away, and Thompson is expected to make a decision on …continue reading
