Jets Win Without Sanchez, Improve Playoff Hopes

Playing their first game of the year without injured quarterback Mark Sanchez, the Jets beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 26-3 to improve to 7-6 on the season. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win.

Kellen Clemens got the start after Sanchez sprained a PCL in his left knee in last week’s win against the Bills, his first in two years. Despite a decisive win, Clemens’ play certainly made fans pray that Sanchez returns next week.

Clemens finished with 111 yards on 12 pass completions.

Without Sanchez, Jets Face Challenge in Bucs

As soon as the Jets seemed to be getting on a roll, winning two straight games and improving their odds of making the playoffs, quarterback Mark Sanchez got hurt.

Although Sanchez had not been playing like anything more than a rookie quarterback, he had become an offensive leader and Rex Ryan’s new conservative offense served him well as he had a 62.5% completion percent in the last two games with a touchdown and one interception. Much better than the 53.2% completion rate and 1.5 interceptions per game that he has on the season.

Sanchez Hurts Knee as Jets Make Playoff Push

As the Jets make an unlikely playoff push in the AFC, they summoned a man who has already won a championship this year, Yankee manager Joe Girardi.

The Jets asked Girardi to work on sliding with quarterback Mark Sanchez who has impressed fans with his legs as much as his powerful (though often inaccurate) arm.

The Jets had been worried about Sanchez’s playing style of late. Aside from his reckless disregard when passing or carrying the ball, the Jets are more worried about Sanchez seriously hurting himself sliding head first.
