 Trendy cocktails; expansive dip pools and filled to the brim with leather-clad hunks. No this isn’t Vegas. Its the remodeled Eagle Bar just over from Central Park, offering spectacular views across the river and beyond. To all intents and purposes, Eagle is a leather bar – that is, a place where leather-clad lovelies pretty much flaunt, pose and strut for your enjoyment. Its actually far more laid back than it sounds and the rooftop bar is the perfect escapist deck, upon which to enjoy your $3 brew and a totally different kind of view.
 Combining a restaurant, lounge club and palatial some 20 floors above the hubbub of Fifth Avenue, Steven Greenberg’s opulent Fifth Rooftop Garden is one of the few places to rest on your laurels, with spectacular views to the Empire State. Opened in 2006, 230 Fifth quickly gained a reputation for it’s upscale decor and celebrity sightings, coupled with chef Zak Pellacio’s mixed grill menu. Cocktails aren’t the only thing teamed with pineapple and shrimp curry, since 230 Fifth also boasts a global beer menu, featuring inclusions from Japan, Germany and Belgium.
 Located behind the quaint storefront of Nita’s tapas bar is a cute space that few on the tourist trail have yet discovered. Snaking vines, potted herbs and the faint aroma of roses permeates the air within the lush, secluded courtyard. The garden is inviting, heated by humongous tin gas lamps and decorated with the twinkling LED lights that seem to have become the modern replacement for outdoor flood-lighting.  Hidden behind the deceptive facade of a small storefront lies one of the most popular European bars in Brooklyn. Nestled in the up-and-coming corner of Prospect Heights, Washington Commons lures with the promise of craft ales and experimental fusion cuisine. Although compact by New York standards, the rear beer garden is a delightful courtyard, fashioned in the style of an Italian vineyard with creeping vines and overhanging trees. Over sixteen beers are offered on a rotating basis, including the bizarrely named Gaffel Kolsch and Piraat.
 Nestled in the heart of Manhattan, within the Yorkville neighborhood, a twee themed alehouse lures locals with the promise of beer from a boot. Not a leather-bound hiking monstrosity we might add, but the “steifel” – a boot shaped glass popular in Germany, capable of holding up to 2 liters of smooth, Deutsch ale. Heidelberg’s garden is a-typical of the cozy, hemmed in back yards of Berlin brewery pubs, with a smattering of umbrella shaded tables and a convivial atmosphere.
