A small plane crashed in upstate New York today, in Wappingers Falls, leaving one dead and one injured.

The plane was going from Orange County Airport and was going to Danbury, Connecticut, but the pilot was trying to make an emergency landing in Dutchess County when the plane went down.

Jim Peters, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, says the plane, called the “Piper Cherokee,” was around at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday in a wooded area, just a few miles short of Dutchess County Airport.

There was a technical difficulty with the plane, and Peters says that the pilot was trying to land after radioing in to report a problem with oil pressure.

The survivor of the crash was airlifted to the hospital. Names of the victims have not yet been released.
